Service Overview and Reviews

Protocols: OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP, SSTP

Service: ExpressVPN provides a paid OpenVPN with 2000+ servers in 94 different countries with advanced configuration settings for TCP, L2TP/IPSec, SSTP and PPTP.

Just download the software and you are good to go. It is probably one of the simplest set-ups available. Simple, clean client interface for server selection and option to connect via TCP.

For smartphone and tablet users, it’s also very simple to use. Excellent apps available for Android, iPhone and iPad.

ExpressVPN should be ideal for people in China or Middle East. They’re geared to that with West Coast server locations and they work pretty hard to make sure people in those countries have multiple ways to connect reliably and get around ISP and government filters.

A single ExpressVPN subscription allows you to connect three devices at once – regardless of platform.

There is a 30-day money back guarantee but no trial account.

Privacy: This service keeps server logs of your IPs, email addresses, credit card information and is a US company governed by US law. See their Policy/Terms/FAQ

Our Thoughts: With a decent size network, ExpressVPN provides a good service particularly for those wishing to access sites that may be blocked in their area. Speeds are good across the network. Ease of set-up means the service is ideal for VPN newcomers.

ExpressVPN is great. The best thing about them is their customer service. If I had a problem they would contact me back ASAP. I use it all the time in China and it has only failed me once – when my new company had a crazy IT department with solid firewalls like the FBI or the CIA. Speed’s great, can access youtube and facebook and any other website in China. What more can you ask. Price is a bit more than others (e.g. astral) but i’m happy with it.

Good speeds, good software easy to install, and they seem to cater to people in restrictive countries with a good selection of servers. good mobile app too

Good service. hides my ip and I can watch US film. big price for me but ok and very happy

Used it since I started working freelance in the middle east and elsewhere around the world and it,s not let me down once. Got an account for my home pc, laptop and my iPad and after the first license it’s cheaper and have already recommended it to friends and they have gone with them as well.

The helpline has also come through on a couple of issues first class with a quick response and follow up so well done to them.

Very easy to set-up and use, starts when computer boots up and no need to log-in but it can be extremely slow for my purposes; it was too slow to stream videos from such US sites as Hulu.com and NBC.com. Customer support was helpful and helped speed things up but then it slowed again

Note: The handshake protocol (MSCHAP_V2) used by many PPTP connections has been cracked and therefore PPTP could now be considered unencrypted. For maximum security use OpenVPN or L2TP.
